Delivery day, that is!
Jonathan and I arrived bright and early at the hospital for our induction. Later, my parents
and the girls,
who had spent the night with Nana and Papa so we didn't have to get all of us ready, came up to the hospital to wait for Mr. Zachariah to make his entrance into the world.
We waited...
and waited...
and after five hours of being dilated to the exact same measure (and a previous six hours of labour before getting to that point), and actually swelling due to the pressure of the baby's head, we determined that I had a case of Cephalopelvic Disproportion. Now, I have an absolutely amazing doctor. She is always really personable, and takes the BEST care of her patients. Despite the fact that it was 7:00 in the evening, and she had called a babysitter for her kids so she could stay at the hospital for me, she gave us an extra hour to labour. She was up front and said "I don't want you to be disappointed, I honestly don't think you're going to be able to have this baby, but your vitals and the baby's vitals are stable, so if you want to wait an hour and see what happens, I'm happy for you to do that." In that hour, I was able to have mom, dad and the girls (who we did not tell that mommy was about to have surgery) come in for hugs and kisses, tease Jonathan relentlessly about being a big baby, and prepare myself mentally to do something that honestly scared me quite a bit. After the hour was over, I had not progressed any further, and was continuing to swell, so we got ourselves all dressed up...
and headed into the O.R.
I was vaguely aware that the baby was out when I heard "Oh, that's a big baby."...
and then came the cry!
What a little lion!
He's perfect!
Can you tell we're a little smitten?
They brought me back to the labour and delivery room, and there were hugs all around. (This is my wonderful doctor. Love her!!!)
